I mean you can stick your head in the sand all you want. Demand is there, click bait headlines or not

There are a some good looking ones on the market today and that are coming out, at least IMO. All Tesla's except the Cyber Truck, Hyundai Kona and Ioniq, Ford Mach-E and the upcoming F-150. I even like the way the newer Nissan Leaf looks. Again the looks are subjective, but enough people buy them where there is a demand to justify their existence

The Hummer EV Edition 1 sold out it's reservations for its highest trim in 10 minutes (3,750) and made about 15,000 reservations of it's lower trim. And this is 100 percent a niche product. Ford has already received over 100K reservations for it's F-150 Lighting EV truck. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only ICE product that seems to have this high demand is the Ford Bronco

You also need to factor in that even offering reservations isn't the norm, so it's not really fair to judge demand of vehicles just by this metric. This is just a hype building machine and not much else.

I would disagree. Tesla did it with their Model 3 where people waited 2 years. Now they are everywhere where I live. Yes it does create hype, but isn't that how sales work?

I said it's not the only metric by which demand should be judged, given all models don't utilize reservations leading up to release. I'm not against the reservation system but rather don't believe the "sold out in x minutes" means much.

As for the Model 3, yes the Model 3 demand was high and remains high. Was that solely due to the reservations? I would wager not. I would say it was due to Tesla's already strong following, specs, and price point unmatched by anyone else.

But as we are talking about the Lyriq, there is no demand. Nobody has actually purchased one, so they are NOT sold out. 1500 prospective buyers put down a $100 refundable reservation. For all you know, the Lyriq could release and totally flop. These silly headlines these blog posts create are just sad...and too many people fall for them

I'm neither for or against the reservations system. It's most likely a way automakers are starting to use to gauge interest, and yes create hype

I wouldn't put down $100 for a car thats coming out in 2 years unless I had actual interest in it and wanted to buy it. I suspect that is the same for 90 percent of the potential buyers. As far as the headline, I didn't write it, I'm only the messenger

But there is no risk You wouldn't be putting anything down, its not even a deposit. This conversation and headline would be totally if these reservations were non-refundable. I see Tesla has non-refundable order fees. Very different.

Doesn't matter if it's refundable. I wouldn't hand over $100 for anything unless I wanted to buy it or unless it was a deposit, like renting something. $100 is $100

Come on. I'm not a moderator, but seems to me that we can disagree with someone (I sometimes disagree with Jill myself) without resorting to rude statements.

LOL it wasn't meant to be rude. Jill is my pal, we argue all the time. If she took it as being rude, than my apologies

Just out of curiosity.....do you HAVE a limit as to how much you personally would hand over as a deposit? Back in the days before the pandemic, most dealerships, for most vehicles, most of the time (there were sometimes some exceptions) would charge around $1000, which was applied to the vehicle's price when it arrived and was ready for delivery.
