Default European Tesla Model Y Amazes In Euro NCAP Safety Tests

IMO Tesla does not get near enough credit for being the safest cars you can be in and they keep getting better. I hope it sparks other auto makers to try and out do them. Of note is the vision only avoidance system performed extremely well as did Subaru in the same tests. Subaru is also using vision only no RADAR.

European Tesla Model Y Amazes In Euro NCAP Safety Tests

Euro NCAP has released results of safety tests of several new models, out of which many noted top 5-star ratings, but the Tesla Model Y "steals the show."

According to the report, the highly anticipated Made-in-Germany (MIG) Tesla Model Y "did not disappoint and shoots to the top of recently published five-star cars."

The biggest achievement for the European Tesla appears to be the near-perfect 98 percent result in the Safety Assist category, which puts to rest the doubts about camera-based safety systems. At the same time, Tesla achieved a 97 percent result in Adult Occupant Protection.

"The Model Y, built in Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, scores an impressive 97 percent in Adult Occupant Protection and near-perfect 98 percent in Safety Assist, with full points for its lane support and new cabin camera based driver monitoring system. In Euro NCAP track tests, the Model Y camera-only Vision system performs remarkably well in preventing collisions with other cars, cyclists and pedestrians."

Results in the other two main categories - Child Occupant protection (87 percent) and Vulnerable Road Users protection (82 percent) were also pretty good.

Euro NCAP’s Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said:

“...congratulations to Tesla for a truly outstanding, record-breaking Model Y rating. Tesla have shown that nothing but the best is good enough for them, and we hope to see them continue to aspire to that goal in the future.”
Structurally this car is spectacular side impact pole test especially. This car is make in Berlin.

I'm surprised my dad hasn't bought one yet, might if he starts seeing stuff like this.

He's huge Toyota fan for last 20 years but he almost bought a new Volvo many years ago because they priased the safety features so much.

It’s still missing a side airbag for rear passengers. Shameful really as it’s where kids go and should be protected as much as possible.

They don’t do side impact test for rear passengers or just test with an inserted car seat.

I think one of the recent updates in my car eliminated radar for vision only. Some people didn’t want that update for whatever reason but I trust Tesla knows what they are doing so I did it.

Uh, of course they test child seats and child protection. Since forever, it scores 87%, it is in video above.

I would assume this also would extend to the US market Model Y as well? I mean safety-wise.

nar. They never measure abdomen and/or pelvis acceleration for rear passengers for side impact where a rear side torso airbag becomes useful.

See the protocols yourself.

In the real world , when you get T boned. Many injuries are pelvis fractures.

yes you won’t find a car without full length Curtain these days. But it is for head, neck and sometimes shoulders (depending on height of the person).

Torso or side airbag is for arm, chest, abdomen and pelvis.
