Oh yes.
My wife had to drive the GL for a few months and actually came away liking it. I almost got her to switch cars with me.
Don't let her test drive the new GLS unless you're ready for her to switch. Except the look, it's a step ahead of your GL.

The top German SUV is a Mercedes G-Wagon. Has proper body on frame design. V8. Full-time 4WD.

it's not 'ridiculous', there's cost of purchase, fuel costs to consider, whether someone needs it, and frankly, modern turbo v6's for example offer some ADVANTAGES over an NA v8. some on here often talk about low end torque being better on a v8. i'd argue for most modern ttv6's it's not even close, the ttv6 is much quicker off the line.

my LC500 5.0L v8 is quite slow in acceleration until rpm's reach maybe 3k+. the li'l 2.5 turbo 4 cylinder in my suv (in sport mode) pretty much leaps right off the line. obviously in a head to head, say 0-60 or quarter mile the lc would win, but still. i do LOVE my NA v8 though because it runs at about 1200rpm at 70mph (thanks also to a 10 speed), is smooth, but about its sound, i really don't hear the engine, just the exhaust.

starting at the low low price of $140K U.S. it may be proper, but 99% of people can't afford one.

I have a die heart lexus fan drove the LX and he didnt like and we ended up buying the X7 which I suggested and found the dealer and deal couple of years back. we drove the x7/LX back to back. But X7 does not fit in my needs...but it was prefect for him. he rarely goes outside a road, had better road manner and was class leading MPG. which Lx does not do well. But the X7 40ihad a turbo 6, which is similar in the new lx.

They have as good off-road capability as the new Toyota Sienna. yes I get it a small number of people buy and like the LX and I am one of them and I use it the way its needed to be used. The newer engines are all going towards smaller displacement/hybrids etc which is I dont like but with MPG in mind that's how the market is.
R1S is pretty impressive they thought of alot of things, but so was Frisker let's see how it pans out next couple of years. Right now even the price of R1s1 is up in the air and wait is more than a year out.
I don't think you are not giving enough credit to some other SUVs when you say they are as capable as a Sienna. I'll just leave this here:

X7 is way more capable off-road than a Sienna, that comparison is ridiculous

Good thing it doesn’t have unpainted wheel well arches.

The fuel economy argument of V6 vs V8 is like OLD. Just like my 4.0 V6 or your 5.0 V8. Both ancient…I think my V6 is older than yours. A new smaller engine would not make anything better. I’m glad I still got my V8. Full time 4WD too…

I don't know which V8 you have but I'm gonna take a guess it's similar to my GX's. Not a thing I cared but I think it was in mid 10s mpg. My 40i's I6 now is at mid 20s. It's a much faster car, handles much better, can tow more than the GX. What else do you want?

Its disappointing Toyota lacks a V8 for the Lexus LX V8s are inherently smoother. More exclusive. The bigger the better. I don’t care for turbos, the complexity is not warranted IMO.

I didn't care for turbos until I got a car with turbos. Turbos are good!

I have seen this. The new awd sienna would hang in there with the best. It’s only lagging clearance. I saw a comparison where it beat out awd offerings from the Koreans. I seriously considered it because we travel a lot maybe I get one and modify. I saw an old school awd sienna hanging out on dunes/beaches

Expect for g class and Land Cruiser none of them have any skid plates.
it’s all plastic underneath which basically destroys everything underneath.

Not a lot of luxury car buyers keep their vehicles that long though

You are right, in the same scenario do you think this rivian would go atleast 120k without issues?
tesla has yet to accomplish this. (Keeping original parts)

I actually know numerous people who have Tesla Model S's with well over 120k miles and have never replaced significant parts...

not me, they have had dumb issues with quality. Battery replaced at 80k, etc. I don’t know many with Tesla.
for me besides it’s the biggest con, don’t want to deal with anything. Just don’t have time
