I agree, I would never get in this color. Although the issue with Black is it gets dirty looking much faster

The Polestar rep was really cool. He didn't have another appointment for a couple of hours, so we hung out for awhile. We talked about the direction of EV's and their future, and I showed him my Y. He said he's probably going to pick up a used one.

What I love most about the direct sales model, was there is no upselling or pressure. His job is just bring me the car, let drive it, and to answer any questions I may have. Nothing else

but i think it's awesome they put great handling hardware on an ev!

obviously it's on an ice platform with the compromises in packaging it brings, but still, i think the interior is really nice and i like the exterior looks too.

The reason he is saying that is that first of all, the BST edition which he was reviewing is not a practical car at all. It's $80K. Yes it has 22" wheels, Brembo brakes, adjustable Ohlin's and lowering springs, but you could buy a Model 3P for $20k cheaper that will run rings around it. It's actually slower in a straight line than my Polestar due to the 22" wheels. It will outhandle me on the track, but I never track my cars so I don't really care about that.

Polestar's are great cars, fun to drive, and great commuters, but have limited practicality because of compromises due to them sharing an ICE platform. They have decent trunk space, but the backseat area is completely compromised. It's fun to travel in, but once you stick two people in the backseat for a few hours and load up the trunk, it begins to lose its charm. When it's lease is up in Jan 2025, I'm probably going to just return it and not replace it. I'm hoping my son will be able to buy his own car by than

I see a lot of Polestars around here, they are pretty popular. Our neighbor has a Polestar 2 and loves it.

Yes, I've been seeing more and more of them. They are very unique looking, and fun to drive. IMO they look better than the Model 3, but they are a bit compromised due to sharing the same chassis with it's Volvo ICE counterpart. Back seats are also not very comfortable, and if you are 6 foot plus, you 100 percent don't want to be in the back seats. But again, the driving dynamics makeup for all that.

I almost wish I could buy it out after the lease ends, but my buyout is around $28K, and it uses their older battery pack which has been improved since. as well as the motors in the 2024

Now that the weather has been colder, the Polestar has been averaging about 36 kWh/per 100 miles, which breaks down to 0.36 kWh per mile, or 2.8 miles per kWh (had to make sure I covered all my bases). Still not too bad for a car that outputs 476 hp (350 kW) and can hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds! No match for the Model Y's efficiency, which on a bad day gets between 28 and 29 kWh/per 100 miles, or 0.29 kWh per mile/3.4 miles per kWh

Polestar 4 Production Starts In China, International Sales In 2024

Customer deliveries will begin in China before the end of this year, but the rest of the world will wait a bit

Polestar has officially started series production of its second all-electric model, the Polestar 4, at the Hangzhou Bay factory in China operated by Geely Holding. And the electric performance brand has big plans for this crossover to become its mainstream mega-hit.

The first customer deliveries in China are expected before the end of 2023. The next step will be the official launch of the Polestar 4 in all of the other current Polestar markets in early 2024, and the start of customer deliveries internationally next year too.

The Polestar 4, called an SUV coupé, sits between the Polestar 2 sedan and Polestar 3 flagship in terms of size and price. The model was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023. It's equipped with a 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack and is promised to offer a driving range of about 373 miles (600 km.) The first production car that rolled off the assembly line this week is finished in a white color called Snow with the signature "Swedish Gold" details of the Performance Pack.

Right now, Chinese production would mean stiff tariffs on the Polestar 4 if it came to America. But Polestar is getting around this in the second half of 2025 by adding additional production at the Renault Korea Motors (RKM) joint-venture plant owned by Polestar's parent company, Renault and Samsung. Those Korean-built Polestar 4s will be the ones sold in North America, escaping the tariff problem.

Meanwhile, in 2024, the lineup will be joined by the Polestar 3 model. That model also will be produced in two places: in Q1 2024 in China, and in the summer of 2024 in the United States. The year 2024 will be especially fruitful for new Polestar electric cars because the Polestar 5 is also expected to be launched next year, while the Polestar 6 is still a few years away now with a release date set for 2026.

“The first Polestar 4 rolling off the production line today is the culmination of hard work from countless colleagues and partners. Polestar 4 stands out in design and performance, a remarkable SUV coupé in many ways," Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said in a news release. "It is the first Polestar to feature a virtual rear window with a world-class digital rear-view mirror. This car plays a very important role in our growing line-up of exclusive performance EVs. It illustrates the value of our diversified and asset-light approach, making use of our partner and major shareholder’s development and manufacturing expertise.”

It's worth noting that the new models are very important for the updated business plan, as the company hopes to achieve break-even in 2025 with a target annual electric car sales volume of 155,000-165,000 via its four models.

I have a question that maybe someone who knows more about leases can answer. My Polestar's lease is ending January 2025. I'm seriously considering buying out the lease at the end, as my son mostly drives this car and I don't want to replace it with a new car. The current lease buyout is $38,877, and by the end of the lease it will probably be around $31K. The actual market value of the car right now if I sold it is $25K. In another year that's going to drop even further.

So my question is, can you negotiate a buyout at the end of the lease? There is no way they will get anywhere near $31k if they sold this on the market after I turn it in. It would probably end up on a CarMax or similar lot, or even auctioned off like my 2020 Ioniq EV was. I don't want to buy it out at $31k, at the same time I don't want to replace it with a new car.

Any advice is appreciated

the car is owned by the finance company, so as far as i know the dealer gains nothing by finding a way for you to buy it for less than the buyout amount.

why would you want to buy a car for somewhat less than $31K when it's likely only going to be worth 10K less?

why not just buy a different used car?

That's another option I'm exploring. It's just that I know the history of this car. Except for one minor issues that's been resolved, it's a solid vehicle that's been very reliable
