From the looks of it, I may be getting a settlement from my insurance for the ES. We'll see what happens in the next couple of days.

The reason I want it totaled is from the severity of the front-end impact, more likely than not, the car will not drive the same. The damages extend all the way to the engine, though I'm not sure if the engine is actually damaged. The airbags would have to be replaced, and those things are obviously very expensive, at least $1,000 per airbag. Factor in suspension, body work and labor charges, I'm sure the repairs will cost more than $10K after all is said and done. The '01 ES had around 126,550 miles at the time of the accident, and judging by the KBB, the expected cash value should be between $8K and $9K, definitely no more than $10K.
I will hear from my Safeco insurance adjuster hopefully by the end of tomorrow. They have been extremely helpful throughout this process, and I hope their turnaround time is quick enough so that I'll have a new car before school start (in the 2nd week of Sept).

Sorry to hear it Doug. I am very glad injuries were minor. I'm sure it hurts seeing your Lex crunched like that... I feel for you. Your honesty is refreshing. We all do crazy, quick thinking, moves on the road. I hope you have a blessing in disguise on this one. If I can help in any way... let me know. If you want to tag along to any CL events you are welcome to ride with me, any time!!

Thanks for your condolences Billy. Yeah it was very painful to see my Lexus sandwiched on the front, but in the back of my mind I have to remember that it's just a car, just a way for me to get from point A to point B, and nothing more than that. I think for me having survived such a horrific wreck like that is one of the luckiest events that has ever happened to me. I owe it all to seat belts and airbags ![Thumb Up](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Just a recent update here, my insurance adjuster informed me that my car is officially a total loss. I will be in talks with the total loss department of my insurance within the next day or so in regards to issuing the settlement check. So it looks like I'll be doing some car shopping this weekend

It's been almost 2 weeks since the accident, but I'm over it and I'm doing OK. No strange after-effects in my body or anything. I sent flowers and an apology note to the lady I hit at the accident. I hope she's recovering back to her normal self.
Just to keep you guys in the know, my insurance is issuing a large settlement check for my totaled ES, in the amount of $18,678.78. I should be expecting the check within the next week. As of late, I've been hunting around for my next car, which is most likely either a 02/03 GS300 or 03/04 G35 sedan. I'm thankful for Safeco sticking by me and helping me out through this mess (hey, that's what insurance is for), but it's almost over. It's interesting how situations like this can make you come out on the better side of things
