Does this have backward capability with older ps2 games? I heard the new PS3s cannot play older games.. can you confirm since you have the box with u? Thanks

All new PS3s can't play PS2 games, they took it out. Really the only benefit of the newer versions are the smaller chipsets. They changed from the original 90nm for the cell and rsx to 65nm for both the cell and rsx. The power consumption has gone down, but nothing tremendous. 65nm chipsets are also cheaper to produce and easier to cool, which mean they are more reliable. If you are looking for a backwards compatible PS3 I would recommend getting the hardware emulation one because it can play almost all PS2 games while the software emulation one can't (software emulation can also be choppy), the only problem is that hardware emulation PS3s are hard to find especially if you want a new one.
