BTW, my sister was back in Chicago the other day for some interview at some college for grad school. Hum... who knows, small world... you might be related to me or know people that I know who lived up there. I did use to live up there. lol

I believe Verizon doesn't use SIM cards. If it did then you could, otherwise you would have to figure out to make it work. I've seen people take Sprint phones and get them to work with SIMs.

Verizon uses CDMA, while tMobile and AT&T (GSM) use SIM cards. Europe also uses GSM, albeit different frequencies. The G1 can be used with tMobile in its current state, or can be unlocked for use in Europe or AT&T for a small fee (under $25).
