Default Canon SD400 for $299.99 at Costco.com

Just thought I'd pass this on. While I don't have this camera myself, I've heard nothing but good things about it. Best price I've ever seen for it as well.

Best part about costco cameras arent the prices...Which are usually a bit higher then elsewhere...Its that costco has LIFETIME warranties on all their goods. You can drop and break your camera and return it for a new one with no questions asked...At least thats how it works at my costco. My mom and sister have both exchanged their ipods like once or twice each....

Canon makes great stuff. I have both Elph APS camera and digital cameras since they first came out.

One problem though, on my S200 it always seems as if the video mode "stops" the recording at 30 seconds no matter how much capacity my memory card had. It's really an inconvenience when I needed to film something for a couple of minutes.

Do the newer SD Elphs have this restriction as well?

Nope, no limit on video recordings. I have the SD500 and a 1GB SD card. I can record until I fill up the card. At it's highest setting 640x480 at 30fps with sound, the card fills up very quickly, maybe 15 minutes tops. But at lower resolutions, it is much longer.

By the way the SD450 just came out. It's 5M Pixel and has a 2.5" lcd.

Sounds you had a slow write memory card.

Is this why the camera is restricted to recording only 30 sec. at once?

It really sucks because even my cell phone takes video clips for as long as its memory allows. I have even taken clips that were longer than 30 minutes with it.

Actually I've been waiting for the review of the SD550 from cnet.com.
They published the review recently and I'm very disappointed to learn that it only scores 7.2.
This means that I'm waiting for another model

No, the restriction is in the DIGIC I chip. The new DIGIC II chips do not have this limitation. Buying a faster memory card for the older cameras will do nothing for you. The new DIGIC II chip can only be found in the new SD lineup of cameras (SD200-SD550) and in their higher end SLR line. BTW, the only difference I can see between the SD400 and SD450 and also the SD500 and the SD550 is the larger 2.5" LCD screen. The original had 2" screens. So I doubt the reviews will be any better or worse.

Dunno what all the fuss is over the SD500. Lots of mixed reviews, but mine is fine. I don't have the audio whine people complain about and the pictures come out great. Granted I'm coming from a Canon S330 which I had since 2002 or something. Picture quality and movie modes are head and shoulders above my old camera. Plus, I manhandle my camera all the time and still have not cracked the screen. The only thing I don't do is sit on it by leaving it in my back pocket. It's fast as hell and takes great pictures. And the flash on the SD500 is AWESOME for an ultracompact. I can actually take pictures at night now.

Got my brother this camera for his birthday in April.

It's unbelievably small and takes fantastic pictures. It even takes 640x480 movies at 15fps, but it will take smaller ones at 30fps.

$300 is an amazing price.
