Default 5.01% APY checking account from Everbank

5.01% APY for the first 3 months...no minimum balance requirement.
That's a good deal if you ask me.
You can always withdraw your money to other accounts after the 3-month period.

thats not bad, but it's only for 3 months. if you're looking for another one that is pretty solid, I recommend paypals money market account. I get 4.25%+ (it always seems to be going up), and I also get 1.5% cashback on ANY purchase. I think they only offer 1% on the debit card now, and I was grandfathered in or something though. Still 1% cashback aint bad at all when you combine it with a 4.25% money market fund.

Thanks, but first of all, PayPal is not FDIC-insured, and then they charge a whopping 1.13% of annual fund operating expenses, significantly lowering your actual profit.

Read their prospectus:
https://www.paypal.com/en_US/pdf/PayPal_Prospectus.pdf

I'll stick to a regular, FDIC-insured checking/savings account.

BTW, the current best low-minimum ongoing deal is 4.40% APY from Umbrella Bank which requires only a $1000 minimum:
http://www.umbrellabank.com/per_acco...ney_market.php

If you have more money (>$25k), you can look into one of those:
