Unadvertised Amazon 3-for-2 sale on HD DVD/Blu-Ray
Starting yesterday, Amazon began offering a buy 2 get one free sale on select HD DVDs and Blu-Rays. You will not find this sale mentioned ANYWHERE on their site. Basically, add 3 movies to your cart, and when you go to check out (the last step before you confirm your order), the cost of the least expensive disc will be deducted from your total. If you also get the Amazon 10% HiDef discount (I do, but I suspect few here do), you will receive the 10% discount off of ALL THREE titles as well. For example, if you take 3 movies at $19.95, your total would be $59.85 - $19.95 - $5.99 = $33.91 if you get this additional discount. Otherwise your total would be $39.90, which is still an amazing deal. There are a few catches, however:
You may NOT mix Blu-Ray and HD DVD movies. You must have at least 3 eligible titles on one format in your cart. You can have more than 3 and get multiple discounts, but you can't have 1 Blu-Ray and 2 HD DVDs.
NO Pre-orders are included, only released titles that are in stock.
This deal DOES stack with the "Buy an HD-A2, get 3+5 movies free" promotion. So if you take an HD-A2 and add 3 eligible HD DVD combos to your cart, your total is $238.88 - $27.95 = $210.93. You get the three free movies as part of the player promotion, then you get one of the titles free AGAIN which actually REDUCES the price of the player. You can also do the same thing and get 3 Blu-Rays with the HD-A2, but I don't suspect anyone here will be doing that.
If a particular title is eligilble, other sequels or companion titles are NOT eligible. For example, Superman is on the list, II and Returns are not. Bourne Supremacy is eligible, but not Identity. Shaun of the Dead is on the list, Hot Fuzz is not. Letters from Iwo Jima is eligible, Flags of our Fathers is not. The only exception I'm aware of is the two Pirates movies on Blu-Ray are both eligible.

I will update this post as these lists are further fleshed out. If you're interested in a title that's not on either list, either put it in your cart with two titles that ARE on the list, or put three copies of that title in your cart, and go to checkout (the discount is NOT reflected in your shopping cart) to see if the cost of one title is being deducted from your total. In either case, post back here with your results and I'll get them added to the official lists.
