Someone told me that if I changed my spark plugs to Iridium ones, that I could gain 2 mpg. 21.1 gallon tank would give me an extra 42 miles on the tank.

Does anyone use aftermarket spark plugs that would give this type of gain? How many do we need? I just want to hear what you guys have to say.. Do you think that it is valid to say that it gives extra HP and better gas mileage? thx

I use NGK Iridium in my car. They aren't as hyped as Denso's, but I'm a firm believer in NGK products. I got the plugs for $6 each and considering the cost I think they're well worth the money. I put them in as soon as I got the car, but after pulling out the old ones it appeared that someone had put the stock Densos in not too long before. Still, the idle was a bit smoother with a noticeable improvement in throttle response. As for mpg and horsepower increase, it's all relative. If you have really old and worn plugs in your car then yes you will gain a couple horsepower and better mileage, but that's only because the old plugs were causing you to lose that power. If you have the factory plugs (Denso Platinum) and they are still relatively young then no you will not gain anything significant. Oh, and our cars take 6 plugs.
