SillBeer.. the APEX'i SAFC/SAFC2 doesn't control timing. Only fuel enrichment +/- 50% from the factory setting. The good thing about the new SAFC2 though is that you get 12 adjustment points that can be set in 250rpm increments to pinpoint stubborn holes in the air/fuel curve, and it also has an Knock monitor.
I know.

Cool Dyno: The Sequel.

Well, despite the compression #s, and a very slight bottom end tick, I decided to follow up on the dyno again this weekend. Main reason is, I wanted to see what if any gain the new plugs gave me, and also to spray the Nitrous on a few runs to set up a "spray" datafile in the SAFC2.

I was kinda confused.. with the new plugs, it ran almost exactly the same #s as it did 2 weeks ago on the old nasty plugs... All I can guess is, it may have declined in performance a little and the new plugs just made right up for it. Strange.. 171rwp, 154tq.

Now is the cool part..hehehehe.. On the nitrous, 235rwhp and 236tq! That is a gain of 64rwhp and 82tq off what I'm guessing to be a 80 shot! And keeping in mind that is on 2 partially blown cylinders! I'm trying to get the dyno sheets scanned and hosted on my server to post them. The A/F was all over the place on the spray runs b/c I am using a ZEX box, and also have the nozzle before the MAF, in my HKS filter. So there is double safety for fuel, but I suspect I'm freezing the MAF. I'll mount the nozzle in the intake pipe right before the TB now that I have a spray fuel map set up and try and get it back to the dyno again before I pull the GE block and replace it with the GTE. I'm guessing at least another 10rwhp is hiding around there.

I'm making plans to set up my daily driver to get ready for the swap, so I hope it holds out long enough I can dyno it again like that.. now I'm curious.

That is pretty odd that the new plugs didn't improve your hp. Those NOS numbers are great though I can't wait to see the numbers when you get the GTE installed

Thanks! The reason for the plugs not making more power could also be that the plug wires are probably just as old as the plugs were, and I havent looked at the cap and rotor yet either. If the spark is not being made there, then the plugs arent going to do anything..

I cant wait to have a motor running on all 6 cylinders.. LOL.. the nitrous on the motor now is just temporary until I get the turbo system built. Then I'm going to take the GTE head and the old GE block/crank and clean them up and build into a full GTE monster just waiting on the sidelines. I'll be looking for "just" 500hp, to get my 4dr Supra into the 11s..scary thing is, I can do that on a healthy stock internals GTE motor.. but I'm getting off topic here.. thanks for the reply!

Have you checked out these two websites? They are full of information about turbocharging and the GE to GTE conversion. Good luck with your install, I can't wait to see the results

When Neil picked up my car it had a slight miss. He changed the cap and rotor and possibly new plug wires but he said the miss went away and it accelerates better now.

A friend just showed me a video of a JZA80 Supra with 2JZGE NA-T. http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=8672 There's the link. You may have to log in. Anyways it's stock bottom end with 3mm head gasket and arp head studs. He ran a 9.71. Pretty impressive.

Talking 4cylinder GS300 night at the track

I took the GS to the 1/4 mile in Darlington, SC Wednesday night to see how she ran on the nitrous. Not bad. Not bad at all. I put up a post in the proper forum.. read about it here.

Those are excellent track times, you almost broke into the 13's And with two dead cylinders, that's simply amazing. Did you make a run without the nitrous that night? If so, what were your times? If not, was your previous tiime of 16.3 with the two dead cylinders? From what I remember, the factory time is 16.7

I didnt get the chance to run without the Nitrous.. I wanted too.. but I couldnt bear too.. and then we ended up having to wait while they cleaned up and broken race car on the track and ran out of time.

Next week I'll go back and run the nitrous after the maf and retune the SAFC2.. should be good for a better a/f ratio.. I think the MAF is freezing..looking at the a/f ratio now.

Default back to the dyno again..new #s!

Took the GS back to the dyno last night after moving the Zex nozzle to behind the MAF. It even ran better off the nitrous, and I posted new bests in HP and TQ on both runs.

New all motor #s: 175.55RWHP, 161.97TQ
Nitrous #s: 240.11RWHP, 237.23TQ

Still trying to get my dyno sheets scanned so I can host them on my server. I took pics of the car on the dyno last night too.

I'm going to the track again tonight at Darlington looking for 13 seconds.

My runs were made in 2nd gear, from 2500 to 6500 rpm. I'll have to get the sheets scanned and hosted on my server and then I'll throw them up here, but the #s went like this.

Baseline runwas 166.06hp/150.82tq, final run was 171.88hp/153.27tq. Let me tell you though, peak #s dont mean diddly unless you are in a HP competition. What makes the difference is the power and torque that was freed up under the peak. Gains were from 5 to as much as 15hp thru the entire powerband.

I was tuning with an SAFC2 and using a combo of the Dynojet wideband tailpipe sniffer and my GReddy A/F guage that is in the downpipe. I did bump ignition timing from the stock 10* BTDC to 12* and gained a good bit of low end as well. It was a good exercise. Now it's time to triple it.

Anybody else with a 1st Gen have any dynos to compare?
EPIK,
Do you recall if the Dynojet wideband tailpipe sniffer O2 reading and your GReddy A/F guage that in the downpipe O2 reading were the same or even close? what A/F ratio did you tune to?

The sniffer in the tailpipe was what I tuned to.. so it is probably even richer than the 11.8 a/f that I tuned it to under the nitrous map. The GReddy a/f.. I cant really say, the rpms come up so quick and being in second and automatic I have to hit the dyno brake and slap the tranny into neutral quickly at the end of the pull. On the street though, the GReddy is showing about 12.0: under WOT

Cool

First, I'd doublecheck those compression #"s. The battery being worn down could be the culprit of the low numbers. Do it again, this time start with cylinders 5 and 6. Also, you typically lose around 50hp in an automatic tranny. Also, parasitic drag is an aeronautical term, referring to drag caused by the skin of an aircraft, has nothing to do with performance loss through a drivetrain.
