Since day one, when I have painted the grill, it seems to never be all black. The picture below is an example of how much this bothers me. I primered/painted the grill and it still looks the same from a side angle. It is too dark to take a pic, but here is a good example of the ugly gray color that shows.
Perhaps I should go buy more black paint and spray until I am satisfied? thx

When I removed mine, the years of road grime were a PITA to clean. I sprayed 409 and let it set, then with a rag, I went in and wiped each slat. I sprayed paint from each side, top, bottom and from the back to insure coverage. I still have some spots but it is pretty uniform.
A gentle sandblast would be nice to prep the surface, this would remove the stock finish pretty much too.

Jesse,
Its the gray color of the old grill and not the shadow. Certain spots on the grill don't adhere to the primer/ paint that well.
Mike,
Thanks for the info.
P.S
Looks like I'll be making a special trip to buy some more paint. I am going to spray until its all black.

You can't powder coat platic.sorry to bust your bubble. It goes in an oven at 450 degress. You may need to sand blast the grill.here is where I come in.hehe have one at work. Did it to my grill so the paint covers evenly.

On mine, i did the detailed cleaning, masked off the Lexus logo and then painted from both sides, angles. It took a few passes and two of the small trim paint cans. I made the mistake of touching it too soon after a coat and left a bit of a palm haze on one part, so I will be repaining that section soon!

Good news! I bought a new can of spray paint and i sprayed it evenly with a generous amount of passes. The paint is drying right now and it looks really sweet!
Mike,
I'm still waiting for Jesse to make that special grill.
