Guys,
Need some help here. My check engine light came on today and at the same time the traction control turned off. The vehicle is a 1994 GS300. I have it scheduled for service this Thursday and was wondering what the problem might be. Has anybody encountered this issue before?
Thanks

The following site has information on retrieving the error code and looking up the code to determine the cause of the problem which is resulting in the Check Engine Light.
http://www.troublecodes.net/Lexus/
I have had two instances of the check engine light this year. The first was intermittent and the code was 41 - throttle position censor. Replacement of the TPS solved the problem. My second CEL was code 71 EGR System Malfunction. This is a common problem with the first gens and it can be fixed by cleaning the EGR valve and tubes.
I did not get the TRAC light, but my car does not have traction control.

How many miles you got? I just replaced my EGR valve at 60K, even though I didn't have the CEL. I didn't do it myself because I was having some other work done but I think it is easy to do.

Bryan, my brother just did this for me two weeks ago on my car. I will ask him for the instructions because he found them on line and I will post a link. It will probably be tomorrow.

Bryan,
I could not find the instructions that my brother had for cleaning the EGR valve. He said that the instructions were not very effective in terms of describing the process. I found the following instructions from daddyestes on this same problem. I will post them here. My brother used carb cleaner to clean the EGR valve and hoses when he had the EGR system taken apart.
EGR VALVE INSPECTION
1.) Disconnect engine wire and heater water valve from cowl panel.
Remove the 2 nuts, and disconnect the engine wire protector and ground strap.
Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the heater water valve.
Pull out the engine wire protector and heater water hose from the cowl panel.
2.) Remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) pipe.
Loosen the union nut of the EGR pipe.
Remove the 2 bolts, EGR pipe and gasket.
3.) Remove EGR gas temperature sensor.
4.) Remove EGR valve.
Disconnect these hoses:
Vacuum hose from EGR valve
Pressure hose from EGR valve
Remove the 2 nuts, EGR valve and gasket.
5.) Inspect EGR valve.
Check for sticking and heavy carbon deposits.
If a problem is found, replace the EGR valve.
6.) Reinstall EGR valve.
Place a new gasket on the intake air connector.
Install the EGR valve with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
Connect these hoses:
Vacuum hose to EGR valve
Pressure hose to EGR valve
7.) Reinstall EGR gas temperature sensor.
Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)
8.) Reinstall EGR pipe.
Temporarily install the union nut of the EGR pipe.
Install a new gasket and the EGR pipe with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 27 N.m (280 kgf.cm, 20 ft.lbf)
Tighten the union nut of the EGR pipe.
Torque: 64 N.m (650 kgf.cm, 47 ft.lbf)
9.) Reinstall engine wire and heater water valve to cowl panel.
Install the heater water valve with the 2 bolts.
Install the engine wire protector and ground strap with the 2 nuts.

No problem. If this isn't enough info for you, my brother said he could probably write up something more descriptive, but he won't have time to do it until after SEMA this week.
