New here - have a few questions
Hey,
My name is Dave and I currently own a 1993 Nissan NX2000 that is modified quite a bit. I've owned this car for 4 years, and it's time for a change.....something more practical. Here are a few pictures of the car:
Anyways, once spring arrives and this snow is gone, I will be selling the Nissan and am looking at possibly picking up a 1st Gen GS300. I've been searching the net for info on these cars, but all I seem to be finding is info for the 2nd gen's.
1) The 3L engine, is it from the NA Supra's, or from a Camry? (I think Supra, but I need confirmation)
2) Were they available in manual transmissions? If not, and the answer to #1 is Supra, can a Supra tranny bolt up to the GS block?
3) Any suggestions on what to look for when sourcing a GS? Common problems, areas of concern, etc.?
I am very knowledgeable about cars and I feel like a dumbass asking these questions, but I can't find the info anywhere!!
Thanks a lot for all your help!
Dave

1) It's basically the same motor that's in the n/a supra - 2JZ -GE
2) Not sure but I think they did come in 5 speed, only, not here in the US
3) If it's been well maintained with a good service record then I wouldn't have any qualms going with one that had even more than 100,000 on the tach....my family has owned 2 first gens and the only problem we've had with both our cars were the O2 going bad and that was about it.
Hope this helps,

Thanks a lot! I'm in Ontario, Canada, and all the GS's I have seen have been automatic. Mind you, I've only seen about 5 in total for sale in the past few months.

Supra, GS, IS, SC

You can use a 5spd from a sc300, or a newer IS300 with the 5spd. The supra V160 6spd will mount to it but its more work than the 5spd from what I gather. I will be using a tremmec T-56 (6spd) when I do my swap
3) Any suggestions on what to look for when sourcing a GS? Common problems, areas of concern, etc.?
Look for bent window trim (most of them this age will have that prob), the cup holder in the center and again (most of them this age will have that prob too)
Other than that, your basic compression / body damage check, etc... nothing thats a big deal thou

grab a 5 speed from an SC300, and put it in a GS, there is even a plate where the clutch pedal bolts up on the GS frame, try and get a left hand drive tranny though, that why you don't have to run weird *** feed/return lines for the tranny, that is a bia.

there is a feed/return lines on the transmission to send the oil/fluid to the stock tranny cooler .
on my bud kevin's 1jz wap SC he had to run the return in a interesting fashion to say the least

Not on a manual...correct me if im wrong but ive never seen a manual tranny that has feed lines. (with the exception of racecars that use a pump and scavenge system for a cooler)
Now on a automatic you'll need a cooler for the ATF.

ah ok ok
I'm a dip
confused on that because he got an automatic clip, and he was talking about removing the lines *smacks head* ouch that's embarassing lol
I've seen a few mannys with tranny coolant lines, but it's on 240SXs that are set up for the track
thanks for correcting me man
