Default Hate it when this happens...(flat tire)

I know this is not a big deal but it just ruined the mood for the whole day. I had to use my mini-van to cruise around in. Finally got a chance to get the tire patched up today (flat happed yesterday) and now things are back to normal.

Btw, how much torque ( w/ torque wrench) do you guys tighten your lugs with? I know the manual says 76ft-lbs but wanted to hear your input.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your flat.

As for the lugs, how many full revolutions can you get when you are tightening the lugs. The OEM should be able to turn about 10 revolutions and the torque spec is 76 ft-lbs as you noted. Some aftermarket wheels will only allow 3-5 revolutions of the lug. I think the ones with these aftermarket wheels tighten the lugs a little higher, around 80-85 ft-lbs.

Thanks for the info, Neo!

I didn't count how many full revolutions it took but I'm pretty sure it was less than 10. I used 85ft-lb when I put my wheel back on. I had borrowed my neighbor's torque wrench and it was already set at 85 so I just left it.

Right on the money Neo!

I have my torque wrench set at 85lbs and I only have 5 revolutions of the lug.

I one asked Rmmgs4 and he reccomended 78.

Well, if Mr. VIP says 85lbs, then 85lbs it is.

Just to let you know if the tourqe wrench was set for a while at a setting that tourqe wrench is not correct anymore. A tourqe wrench uses sprung tension and the tensioner wears very fast if left sprung.

I am not talking **** or anything but just to let you know and warn him.

dont use an impact gun on your lugs... sure way to warp the rotors and experience vibration at speed. get a torque wrench.

That may work on OEM rims with the "typical" Lexus owners but if you get any enthusiast into your shop, be prepared for that customer to have a cow. This is especially true with the ones with aftermarket rims too.
