Default Key Transponder Programming!

Found a local place (Seattle WA) that sells Lexus sidewinder keys with transponder for $69.00, including insturctions to program the transponder. I'm sure these are readily available around the country. As we all know, you can only do this if you have an original key with programmed transponder. My local Lexus dealer wants over $300 for a duplicate, but you can also get them off the web un-cut.

BUT, take care, there are 2 sets of intructions out there to program 95 to 02 Lexus/Toyota, the wrong set could erase your original transponder key. You need to make sure that you use the latest published instructions with 2005 on the cover. Prior instructions at this locksmith were incorrect. They haven't had a specific problem with Lexus, but did manage to strand a Honda recently!

Email me direct if you have questions macvalk@yahoo.com

Cool

Uhhhh nice!?!?! However, there is NO TRANSPONDER system on 93-97 GS3's, Lexus started it on the 98GS3's Unless you mean transmitter for the keyless entry/alarm.

Jmac,

More than likely these are refurbished keys. Watch out for those. The key blade is just superglued in!

If you use the wrong programming instructions it will not erase your current remote or key. It just won't program in... unless you use the programming for specifically deleting all existing remotes.

You will also need an existing programmed Master key. You will not be able to add more keys with just the valet key. Also, on some of the newer models you have to have the keys programmed in by a locksmith with a key programming computer or go to the dealer because the keys are not OBP.

Take care,

Tami

How is this completely wrong? I am talking about ANY transponder equipped Lexus. This does apply to ALL Lexus vehicles with a TRANSPONDER key.

Default Its a 2001

Didn't say what year I had, but its a 2001-it does apply, so me bad for not making that clear.

Programming was about a 20 step process, took me twice to get it right. Good to know you can't erase orginal as advised by the locksmith!

Tx for the other feed back, its actually a new key, doesn't have the Lexus logo on it. Not sure if its super glued or not, but will check it out. Its actually for a spare hinden on the car-that was a challenge finding a place I could attach it and still get at it if I needed it.

Have a basic question, as the key has a transponder, does that mean it has a battery molded in it. Other than splitting the key with a hack saw or knife, there is no way to get inside it.

Ok, that makes more sense. I was thinking it was a remote head key.

The refurb keys would have been the remote head keys at that price.

There is no battery in the non-remote transponder keys so you won' t need to take it apart. The transponder doesn't need a battery, only the remote would need a battery.

That is about an average price for the aftermarket non-remote keys.

Take care,

Tami
