Well those are for pretty old cars, and Lexus contacted me before I heard of any oil sludge issues.

Are there any for the later models....like the 2001+ GS?

Hmmm...interesting read...seems like a few isolated incidents. It's really hard to tell, whether or not other factore were involved...

Anyhow, my brother and I both have high mileage GS' with no problems whatsoever...
I've got 203,000 plus and my brother (b4 he wrecked his had) 280,000+...and I'm sure would have went on for another 100,000 with no problem

that's pretty scary to know.....i think the underline issue that everybody has to understand here (good read by the way) that evidently it's very possible for this (sludge issue) to occur....i wonder if this is an issue our friend "seafoam" can remedy? .....

Cool

You can get rid of sludge by flushing the motor with Amsoil or seafoam engine flush and then using synthetic oil afterwards. If the oil is really dirty you may have do two flushes. Becareful though flushing the sludge can cause leaks and increased oil burning. I did mine and have had no problems since.

What are some of the places that will do seafoam flushes? Will any mechanic do it or only certain ones? I heard that since I never did it before that I shouldn't try to do it myself or I'll probably screw it up.

If you can change the oil you can do it yourself. You can buy the seafoam from NAPA or order the Amsoil flush online. With the engine warmed up dump it in and let the engine run at a fast idle. Shut engine off after 20 minutes. Change oil to synthetic mobil 1 or amsoil change filter and refil. I'd also reccomend replacing the oil drain plug with a magnetic one as well.

whats the difference between a regular oil plug and a magnetic one?

What about using seafoam for other things...gas tank, brake fluid etc...?

seafoam is fine for the fuel tank and fuel system and flushing the engine via the lubrication system. You can't use it anywhere else A magnetic drain plug will catch any small metal particles that may be in the oil. Yes the oil filter will most likely catch it, however most people don't cut their oil filter open to inspect for debris, so this way if there are any problems you'll know about them when you go to change the oil. You can do it yourself and you won't screw it up. However, if you're worried about just get the seafoam and magnetic plug and take it to your local oil change place and arrive a little early and dump it in. Let the motor run at a fast idle for about 20 minutes and then have them change the oil and filter while reinstalling the new drain plug. don't mention the seafoam to them as some places may only accept oil if it's uncontaminated.

Thanks.... I did some more searches for seafoam and what I was talking about was some people puting it in the brake booster hose, the PCV hose and the intake vacuum line.
I'm due another oil change so I'm going to do the seafoam and magnetic oil plug thing soon.

Putting it in the brake booster hose will have the same effect as dumping it in the oil. You can put it through any of the small diameter vacuum hoses to clean out any gunk in the system.
