Default 95 GS300 key cutting

I bought one of those 7 dollar blanks on ebay, so i could make a copy of my master key, and i just got off the phone with my local lexus dealership and they said they won't cut it, and I would have to have a locksmith do it, and most of the locksmiths i know, say i should go to the dealership. It costs 45 bucks for a new one, the dealership parts person said on the phone. I don't know whether its liablilty issue of why they cannot cut my blank i got on ebay or what. The blank doesn't have any buttons on the side of it or anything, just a plain old black plastic end that has "ilco" imprinted on the side of it. I know it is for my car, i just can't find anyone to cut it. Thanks

When I had one made I went through the dealership. You give them your vin # and they order it cut. Its like $45 for the reg keys, and ~$250 for a remote key. I don't think that the dealership can cut keys...

Sam,

They can't cut the key for you because most Lexus dealerships don't have the key machine needed to cut the high security keys. They order them by VIN and they arrive precut to your vehicles key code.

PM me with what part of New York you are in and I will see if I know anyone in your neck of the woods that can cut it for you. Taking it to a local will be a lot cheaper than having me cut one by code for you. (unless you already have the key code. I have to pay to get the key code from the VIN)

Take care,

Tami

I read on another lexus forum that lexus will replace the ecu if you buy a master key So that the remote entry feature will work. It stated that if the VIN had ever had this done you were going to have to buy the ecu at cost. Don't know if this will help but was wondering if any forum members have tried this??
