Default removing fan

I remeber someone saying a while back that they had removed the fan from thier car I'm planning on doing this but at the same time I dont want to f up the waterpump. how many and what size electric fans should i add and does this mod free up any power from the motor?

I think that's one of the stupidest things you can do to a daily driven street car. The gains are hardly worth the inconviences and extra loads on the electrical system. The stock fan is thermaly connected so it slips and does not draw as much hp as a fan that's directly connected. I believe EPIK was the one who did it, however his car is more of a race car.

turbo- After I posted that I looked at in the garage for a long time and noticed exactly what you just said. For all the crap that I'd have to go through including throwing everything off becasue the fan is perfectly balanced to the water pump, there would only be a minimal gain and after spending so much time and money on that stupid fan clutch its fine the way it is. by the way I think it was you that had used seafoam before, right? did you add it to the crankcase? or use it to clean the intake/injectors? My question is will it break down the oil?

CT,

I use seafoam both in the fuel tank and in the crankcase. When using seafoam in the crankcase, like any engine flush, I only do it before changing the oil. I let the engine run at a fast idle for 20 minutes then I change the oil and filter. I've heard of some people that leave it in and I'm sure all it does is dillute the oil so it's like a lighter weight, it doesn't break it down. Almost everyone I've talked to on 3 different car forums swears by the stuff.

I have an electric fan on my car and will be changing it back to stock soon. I don't think electric fans are stupid, just not meant for all the dd cars out there. There are quit a few cars that come stock with electric fans and in some cases will free up a minimal amount of response and fuel economy. Depending on the type of fan you get it won't make that much of a difference on the electrical system. There are fans that draw fairly low loads and flow a fairly high amount of cfm's. The 16" perma cool for instance flows 2950 cfm's and draws 9.8 amps. But I don't think you can find an electric fan that will outflow the stock fan and keep the car cool. Does anyone know what the stock fan flows?
