Check Engine light W/ TRAC Off
While driving down the expressway, the check engine light, along with the traction control off light came on. No difference in driving noticed. I had the air on doing about 65 mph. I shut the car off for a couple minutes, and there still on. Any Ideas?
I did a search with nothing.
Why would both come on at same time?
Thanks
Mike

Turbo,
Could you please explain this procedure in detail, I've never heard of this before. Coincidentally, my check engine light also came on for what seems like no reason at all. The car is running great, due for an oil change, but the light came on at EXACTLY 88,500. Is this a built in service check warning?
Thanks in advance for your help!

So your saying to:
So your saying to:
1. Disconnect the battery completly.
2. Take a jumper cable and attach it to the positive terimanal on the battery.
3. Then take the other side and touch it to a metal part of the car.
What does this do exactly?
Thanks
Mike

You can go to an autozone or checker for free code pulling or you can jump the TE1 and E1 pins with a short piece of wire and the ignition on in the diagnostic connector. The CEL will then flash a series of codes indicating the problem. To make the CEL go out you can disconnect the battery, tap the brakes or connect the positive terminal to ground. This will erase the codes in memory. However if you don't fix the problem the CEL will pop back on once the fault reappears.
Turbo is right the o2 sensor is the culprit. it will turn on the trac light, check engine, and the trac off light at the same time. My upper o2 sensor needs to be replaced and I have the same lights on. I haven't noticed poor gas mileage I get between 325-350 a tank of mobil 93. Ty this website http://www.troublecodes.net/Lexus/

u dont need to disconnect the battery and then jump the terminals. all u need to do it jump the terminals and watch the dash flash at u
make sure u write down all the codes it will show up like this _ = flash *=wait time.5 secs
_ _*_ _ _****_ _ ** _ _ _ _ _ _ _
means 23
and 27
dont need to worry about the trac light for now. when the cel turn on so does the track off light
