Link 13 on 20" Zone wheels & interior dark wood! Pics!
Here it is... the opportunity came and we swapped the old 19" HRE 448Rs for a new set of Zone wheels.
Many of you know my brother Link 13 - we both have GSs, his is a '147, mine is a '161. I thought I'd post a few photos, as he is busy with another project.
The wheels are 20x9 and 20x10.5 Zone 1 with Falken FK-451 255/35-20 + 285/30-20
The centers are brushed and coated with a ceramic clear coat. Outer rims are chrome, and the inner rims are polished & clear coated. The center caps are the NEW brushed & embossed Zone caps.
The car is now on new KYB shocks on the existing Eibach springs. Front caster arms and ball joints were replaced, a four-wheel alignment was done, and the big timing belt service was all performed by Ted at Dynamic Auto Service in Midway City, CA. These guys are great- one of very few shops we will trust with our cars!
We also recently completed an interior "darkwood" conversion. We replaced the center console wood and had all the interior wood sprayed with a black candy clear for a darker finish- I would describe it as 'dark walnut,' although it basically looks piano black in the shade. The wood was removed from the car, sprayed with several coats of candy clear, and color-sanded & buffed to perfection.
Special thanks to Joe at Backyard Creations for the darkwood, and Nick, Anthony, and Greg at Falken tire. The FK-451s are terrific- smooth, quiet ride so far!
Thanks for looking!

Thanks to my brother (SoCalSC4) for building the wheels for me and to all of you for the coments on the car. I was recently considering selling the car and buying something new, but with the new wheels and tires (thanks, Bob), the 120K service (thanks to Ted at Dynamic Auto Services - this is a great place to go for service in SoCal), and Joe at Backyard Creations for the dark wood treatment.
I really enjoy driving the car again because I am excited about how it looks and I am confident in its reliability now that the service is done.
Cheers, all, and keep rolling those first gens. They will run forever if you are good to them.

I think Tanabe has a spring for the first-gen GS that might go a little lower. My experience with this car has shown that the JZS 147 doesn't have a ton of front suspension travel, so I would be reluctant to drop it significantly without doing coilovers. The Eibachs ride great and the car just had a four-wheel alignment, so we're sticking with it for now.
Here's a moving shot... I took this while I was driving next to him (do not attempt!)

I would actually like to go a little lower, but a lot of my car fun money is tied up in my AE86 project. Also, as my brother mentioned, I just bought KYBs and my brother spent a hot weekend day installing them (thanks, Bob - that Salt Creek Grill steak dinner is ready anytime). The coilovers are the only way to get that perfect drop. I may end up doing that at some point, but since I just sunk some cash into the KYBs, ball joints, lower trailing arms, and an alignment, it may have to wait a bit.
