Default chip in key needed to start?

the other day i went to open my trunk with my key and the ****ing key crumbled. of course its th eonly key i have too. the plastic housing split and the actual key broke out. So i sodered the chip inside the key back onto the actual metal key, and temporarily electrical taped the key back together. it was working fine, but now for some reason ill go to start the car and it won't start....it wants to start, but wont do more than just click.im thinkin the inside of the key is getting messed up again. so i was wondering if you guys know if you need the chip in the key to actually start the car, or is it just for the keyless??? Sometimes it will start perfectly, sometimes i have to turn the key a few times, and sometimes if u just hold it in "on" it will start haha. im trying to pinpoint the problem and figured i'd start with the key. also, if anyone has had this problem what can be done??? thanks!

This is correct. even if you have the wallet key which basically a piece of aluminum cut out in the shape of our key it works. no chip involved. the only thing you are missing out on is the remote door opener.

the key acts like an antenna for the remote.
