Default Will 255/55/18 fit on a 1st Gen?

I have a set of the Enkei Aegis that are 18X8. I had 245/40/18 on there preiviously but they started to crack and they are like brand new! There is a used set I can get for $100 that are 255/55/18. Will they rub on a 1996 GS? Thanks!

255/55-18is an SUV tire - great if you have an ML350 or an X5.

It won't even fit the front of the GS- the tire will hit the ball joint bolt.

Pass on these tires.

I have 265/30/18s all the way around. Before, I had 285-30-18s out back and 255's up front. Im gonna be going back the 285's when the swap is done

So, I should be okay then with the 255/55? How do you think SoCal (above) came up with this being an SUV tire?

SoCal is right about the 255/55 being too big. The series 55 is a percentage of the width. So the wider the tire the bigger the sidewall will be. The biggest I would go is a 255/40 or a 245/45

255/55/18 have a 29" overall diameter, while your current 245/40/18 is 25.7" overall diameter. It is more than 3" larger than the stock size.
