which key is whic
I did a quick search on this, and didn't find what I'm looking for. If I missed it, feel free to blast me, as long as you give me the link to the answer
I just bought a 95 GS from a local dealer, who bought it at auction. I got two keys...one with a large head, and one with a smaller head. Neither is a keyless entry key.
I went to Lexus to get new keys (first mistake, I know...going locksmith route now). Guy tells me that the big key is the master, and should open every door, trunk, Glove box, and should start the car. Little key is valet key, and only opens doors and starts car. Makes sense.
Well, I go test this. The big key only starts the car...nothing else. The little key opens all doors, trunk, and glove box, but wont start the car.
My guess is that some portion of the car was re-keyed. My guess is the ignition. My plan is to just get copies of both keys...as long as I'm not paying $60 per at Lexus, that's a viable option. In fact, Lexus guy doesn't think he can even order keys, as there is no record of the lock change in his system, and the key the cut from the VIN probably won't work. He wants to either charge me $160 to pull the ignition cylinder, read the key code, and cut me a new one, and $360 more to rekey the doors, trunk and glove box to match. Bargin.
My question is more just for knowledge now...what should the two keys do?

Lexus Champion
I dont know what to tell you about what key fits what, but I can tell you that I finally found a lock smith that cuts lexus keys for 20.00 including the blank. You can also get the blanks on ebay for 10bux a pair.

Help
Well the Big key is the Master key but to what ever car they took the Ignition from, and the small key would only open the door and turn on the car. Who ever changed the Ignition should of changed the door locks too. If you want keyless entry for what you are going to pay to get what you want just go and get a Cliford or something like that. Good Luck Man
