Had my tires siped about 6 weeks ago on my 01 GS300-since then I've had a bad shudder between 60-65mph. It was nothing to do with the tires being siped, just that wheels were not put back in same place.
It took 5 attempts, but they are now perfect again. You have to find a tire store that has a GSP 9700 balancer-not everyone does. Here in the Seattle area some of the Les Schwab stores have one, other don't.
At Goodyear, after 2 failed attempts I was told I needed new wheels all round-at 50k miles-that was the only thing that would cure it!!
I know this is not uncommon on the GS 300, so check out this GSP 9700 and spend $40.00 to get it taken care of.

What my learned colleague above said. Not all wheel balancers are equal, the Hunter seems to work for my GS. Its a different and much more accurate balancer. Problem with GS is that even being off 5% or less can cause the shudder at the critical 60mph. Look them up on the web for a location near you, then interview the operator to make sure they know what they are talking about. Then have him take you into the shop to show you how far off your wheels are. Make sure you get all 4 balanced the GS is a very sensitive car;-)

OK, it sounds like any other balancer to me...I used to work at a tire store in my younger days, that's why I asked. I think it really comes down to operator competence. I'm sure the latest technology helps, but even that is useless if there's a tool workin' on your car.
