Smile One Solution to the stinky air condition vents

Hi! Recently purchased a 1994 GS300 and experienced a terrible odor especially while using the outside air through the vents. So I read the forums for solutions and I followed advice to spray a deodorizer through the under hood outside vents-----big mistake! Smelled like crap that was perfumed.

What I did was take a hose (with power nozzle) and sprayed a jet of water through each outside vent while watching the water run out of the drains near outer front wheels. What I saw was tremendous amounts of black fungus or mold (or whatever) draining unto the ground. After some time doing this the water started running clear and I ceased the operation. Now the smell is consideralbly less and goes away after a few moments of operation. I am sure that I didn't get it all which would require removing the plastic vent covers (underneath the hood) and allowing the water jet to get a closer contact. Maybe when I get the time I will.

Needless to say I think I got to the cause instead of masking the odors like heretofore suggested on these forums. Anyway my two cents on this subject.
