I get spirited sometimes, roll down my windows, put it in pwr mode, then punch it so I could hear my cold air intake and exhausts roar!!!

My gas mileage sucks
Looks like you guys are getting way more than I get on my 95 GS 300. I have about 163k on it and I typically fill in about 16-17 gals, with about 260-270 miles, so about 16mpg. Granted I do more city driving in Bellevue than highway, but it still looks more pathetic than my 02 ML 500 which averages at least 17-18mpg.
What gives?
I have used twice in the past 6 months those fuel injector cleaner additives from STP. Just changed oil at lexus and put in a new starter. I did a 60mile service check and tune up last October when I bought it from a private party.
The car runs very smoothly and changes gear well.
Any suggestions?

Dont do some much city driving, haha, jk.
If your stopped for a long period of time and you have the A/C on, that will kill the gas mileage. I mean, like if you sit in traffic for like 30 minutes a day, just creepin at like 20-30 miles an hour, then 16mpg is about right. I only get 19 because more than half my drive is highway, and most of the time I have the windows down.
Make sure your using 91+ octane, I know its a little bit more expensive, but its worth it, and yes it will help your car run cleaner and easier. Change your fuel filter, or make sure Lexus did, clean your MAF, and dont let the car shift above 3k RPMs while in traffic, keep it below 2500 if you can.
Thats about all I can say.
Good luck.

Thanks,
I never use the AC and only use 91 octane. I do sit in traffic occasionally, but it's usually 35-45mph driving on streets to work and back. highway does seem to improve things a bit.
can I clean the fuel filter and MAF myself? If so, where can I find instructions.

I was inspired by Jacob to take this pic, it was my first fill-up when I got back from Iraq....kind of bitter sweet, I imagined, like most, our presence there would drive the cost down...no pun intended....LOL....of course, it's gone up another .10 since then...I did get 280 of out that tank though, it was a drive down to Miami

As far as the MAF, I think there are MAF cleaners at like pepboys or autozone, or whatever car shop you have, if not, you should ask them what to use to clean it. If you clean the MAF and your mileage is still bad, you may need to change the O2 sensors, I would ask Lexus if they changed them on your last tune-up or whatever.
If all else fails, you could always buy an Apex-i SAFC2 fuel controller and take it to a dyno and have them tune it so you get better mileage, and an added power bonus. If you wonder how that possible, you could do alot of research, always helps me.
Marc, thanks, cost me 28? to fill up half a tank. I know you were fightin hard and when you come home and see this stuff your probably pretty upset. Gas prices are gonna stay on the rise, hopefully before winter they will drop a little bit, because we all know winter prices are gonna suck this year.

Hopefully E85 can take off. I strongly believe that this is our temporary answer until new technologies can be developed cheap enough. Compared to filling up a very large tank of lets say,...100 gallons, only 15 gallons would be gasoline and 85 would be ethanol.....VERY good for the environment, fuel supply, and of course gas prices.
Then again, their is not even relatively close enough are to grow enough corn to supply the country but it is a good first step.
BTW, E85 is 2.36 in my town, anyone else input on prices??
ABEAR: Please do a write up for fuel filter, i would like to do it myself aswell!!

In Chicago gas is almost $3.50 a gallon for premium and I swear its got to be watered down with toilet water cause it burns up like cigarettes , I gave up counting mileage a long time ago I just count the price at the pump I wish I was J.R. Ewing from Dallas right about now.
