alternator problems
alright, i just blew out my third alternator in about eight/nine months, which i don't understand why it keeps on happening. I only have an 1200 watt sony amp and one rockford p3 sub, nothing to crazy. I also have a rockford power cap and a red top optima battery to but less pressure on the alternator to keep things charged and it still keeps going out? Whats going on here, could somone give some info. on whats happen?

What kind of battery do you have? Perhaps it's being sucked dry by the stereo? Is there a ground that is broken or not attached to the frame? That could cause issues too.
I have a spare alternator in a cabinet and another one when I pull my motor in 2 weeks. Let me know if you need one. Or you might need both to figure this out.

I had the same problem when I hooked up my system, I was running my old, old school fosgate 1100a2 amp. I had to replace my alt. every year until recently got so fed up had an electrician add more amps to my alt. and now Im ok.
I would suggest you upgrade on The Big 3, Deep cycle battery, alternator w/ more amps, and a thicker gauge wire..

I've had CONSTANT problems with my alterntor, I tried high output and it was no good either, so I got cheapie from autozone and traded in the Optima for regular battery and so far haven't had any more problems

After about 3 yrs or so my yellow top completly gave out, now Im running on a autozone cheapo battery until I get done with my current install- I'm looking to get another yellow top soon, cause this autozone batt has only been in the car about 4 months and its already dead, lol Haha, thats because the car has been in the garage for 4 months w/o starting it.

You can find a H O alternator for this car, not cheap though. I got a quote for a stinger alt for 5 bills from a local audio shop a while back, thats way to much.
Regarding how to add more amps to the alt, thats probly gonna be a problem. Not many electricians are willing to do it (on a lexus). The most you would be able to add is about 40 amps, the guy that did it for me is a close friend.
