Default Alternator problem

Hey Everyone, I haven't posted in a while just been so busy. But anyways, In the last 2 years I have gone through 2 alternators now on my 3rd and it just took a crap on me today again, I barely made it home. Anyone know the cause of these alternators to keep dying? or am I just having bad luck with these rebuilt alternators. Anyone have a link to alternators that will fit the first gen gs? Thanks.

Hey John,

Who is the manufacturer of your alternator? When I replaced my old alternator, I replaced it with a denso one which is exactly like oem.

Whats the amp rating? i'm thinking my alternators are burning out so quickly because of my sound system is making it work too hard. I'm looking at upgrading to something higher than 80 amps without having to pay more than 250 bucks... Thanks..

Btw. i have no idea what brand name mine is. any link to where you got yours bryan?

A Supra auto TT atlernator is 100amp. I ordered one from alterstart that is supposed to be 165amps for $317 shipped. Way overkill, but why be short.

Jmai, the problem with the denso alt's on the GS3 is it's only 60amps once it gets hot and that's just about enough to run the car with a little reserve. If you add a couple amps or one large amp it places a huge strain on the alt. Also the fact that the alt is down low and doesn't get very good cooling doesn't help either. Heat is what kills an alt the quickest. I can rebuild your alt with all heavy duty components if you want to stick with stock or have a backup for the next time it goes out.

WELCOME BACK....So, you rebuild alternators? I have one laying around that alterstart supposedly made 180 amps, but would not maintain voltage at idle....is there anything you can do with that?

Thanks! Sure, It can be rebuilt, with a Heavy Duty rectifier if needed and an external regulator added for adjustment of voltage. It should be fine as long as you don't have an UD pulley.

I don't yet, well, I do, it's just not installed yet....So, I'm guessing that my problem will only get worse then
