Default GS Tranny lock

Ok so my brothers tranny locked on his 93 GS and now his brake lights don't work. I've tried everything and its pissing me off. In my 02 IS300 manual it says the brake lights will stop working if the tranny is locked, is this so for the first gen GS too. If yes, how can I get them to work again?

Just make sure the brake light switch at the brake pedal is o.k. This is the same switch that sends a signal to the ECU to disengage the shift lock mechanism. Make sure the fuse is good. If that is good, it might be that the actuator went bad. There is also a shift lock override button under a cover similar to this.

Just pop the cover out by sticking a small flat tip screwdriver in the slit in the middle and pry it out. Then push down, with the same small flat tips screwdriver, on the lever/button inside. You can now shift into gear. At least you can drive the car.
Good Luck,
Will
