This is pretty involved. I just bought my GS 300 with 130K on it and I am the 3rd owner. The owner I purchased it from bought it with 100K on it and doesn't know if the timing belt has ever been replaced. Is there a way for me to determine if/when it was replaced? For example, if a dealer completed that work at the scheduled interval do they enter it in some accessable database? This is a long-shot question, but I had to ask.

Also, how much does it typically cost to get the timing belt replaced and is there any other preventative maintenance I should get done while they are in there doing the belt?

Thanks again.

It's a non interference motor so that is to your benefit. How does the belt look? Is the writing on it faded or worn or does it look new? Can you see any obvious cracks in the teeth? Do you have road side assistance in case you decide to keep it and you're wrong?

Thanks Kaiser for the info about non-interference. *sigh of relief*

I assume from your questions and the schematic to replace the timing belt that I would need to remove the #3 cover to inspect the belt first and go from there.

BTW... the dealer wants $386 to replace the belt only but recommends while they are in there to replace the water pump and accessory belt for a grand freakin total of $1157 and that is assuming the tensioner and pullys don't need replacement upon inspection.

The waterpump is something like $150 from www.toyotaandlexusparts.com . They shouldn't charge you that much to install it, being that they are right there for timing belt anyway. The accessory belt is $30 and also would need to be put back on anyway with the timing belt. Got to love the stealership.

Hello you can to the lexus.com website and at the bottom of the page you will see a button called "owners" click on that and enter your VIN this show all the work done at the dealer. When I bought my car used I did this and saw that there were 3 pages of work done at the dealer by the previous owner. Good luck.

Shid...386 to do the timing belt is cake. My dealership charges 5 hours and theyre labor rate is 118. So roughly 580$ for just the timing belt. Good luck. Only big tool need to do this is a Strap wrench. Other than that it can be done at home. Everything is right in front of you lol. GL
