Default Aristo transmission swap ?

Hi I'm importing a 92 Aristo from japan. I know it comes with a 2jz-gte, but its auto only. I plan on buying a getrag 6spd, but was wondering if anyone has done this swap? i'm aware of the custom work needing to be done, but if anyone has a write up or any specific info on a manual swap that would be great.

I;m also wondering if there is another manual transmission other than the getrag 6spd that will work with the 2jz?

R154 5 speed will bolt up as well as a W58 5 speed. The R154 needs a little modification to the shift tower but will hold a couple hundred more hp.

Toyota Soarers and the Supra. Not sure if there were others. Though there are some differences between the Soarer and Supra R154.

hey guys, do you have to do anything to the linkage for the shifter to make the R154 hook up... i have a spare one form my supra, i just need to get my hands on a bell housing for the form a 1jz supra to make it work...

I saw the sorarer had some thing that pushed the shifter back a bit form the oringial location... Do we need something liek that for the Arsito?

Yeah, PM Epik as he is sourcing parts for his R154 swap now. I think he has it planned out.

looks nice, but not helping me much. If the guy in that post could sound off on this one, that would be great.

Profile for gs300pnp the owner states 1993 swap. Definately first gen. The point was that the work was done by Sound Performance and posted by them as well. Call them.

Not an easy thing to do going from AT to a manual. Shifter is the least of your issues. its the clutch and placement in the enginebay.

It can be done but it will take some work and trial and error. Its not cheap either the 6sp Getrag the clutch, installation etc... Plus your rear diff and driveshaft. You'll need to get a custom driveshaft. OEM rear diff for the AT won't help you either. AT/TRD diff will help but you'll want the MT/TRD LSD Diff. This will require you to get a differnt pumpkin, core, ring/pinion.

6sp Getrag if you can find it... expect anywhere between $3-$6K
TRD MT LSD complete will be at least $2K
The driveshaft at least $500.00
Finding the clutch pedal kit you can order from elmhurst olds. Don't know cost but I think its about $400.00
Clutch and flywheel this will vary depending on your selection.

If you really want to do it, find a soarer with the 5sp man or find an SC300 5 spd manual. Nevertheless, the above mentionables will still need to be carefully considered.

Other alternative... SP400...they range from $3900 and up to $8K. Mine is rated for 1500-2000hp. But I didn't get the neilchance coverter yet. The SP400 is an auto manual 3sp and requires you to manually shift it up and down.
Highway is find but depending on your torque coverter your rpm at 70mph could be as high as 3800rmp or lower again all depends on you coverter. Mine is high stall but I'll be racing mine. You could wait for the 4 sp. 4l80e but this will cost more but its an auto tranny.

Call SP and either owner Larry P or Chris T. Larry will know all about the tranny options you're considering Chris T. will tell you more about the SC300 5sp and upgrade to the 6sp Getrag. Both will know about the reardiff and driveshaft options you will need to concider.

Bottom line - just parts alone will cost you some coin.

Goodluck with your choice.
