Thumbs up 1993 GS300 - 178,000 miles

I have 178,492 miles right now.

Needed to do a transmission rebuild at 168,000 miles. It was shifting really hard from Park to Reverse and from first to second.

Other non-scheduled items:
66,000 - Front control arm and lower ball joints replaced by recall
79,000 - Hood lift supports replaced
132,000 - Keyless entry no longer working (on both keys - not battery problem)
150,000 - Brake caliper rebuild
165,000 - Brake rotors replaced & antenna mast replaced
170,000 - Radiator replaced
171,000 - Trunk struts replaced
178,000 - New KYB shocks and some used RSR springs installed.

My telescoping steering wheel is jerky at times so I leave the switch to manual.

Instrument cluster tach needle is out. 2 Backlight bulbs behind speedometer are out. (If anyone knows how to fix the lights and needle on the cluster, please let me know!)

The only thing I really don't like is my cold start idle is around 1800 RPM and shifting my transmission at that RPM is not good. I had a remote start installed just so I could warm it up for a few minutes without sitting.

The engine runs terrific and I feel the power is as good as the day I bought it. I can still pass 6 cylinder Hondas but not 4 cylinder Subaru WRX's!

The leather seats are in decent condition especially the back seats.

Since the control arm/ball joint recall, I have not replaced the ball joints. Now that I think about it, I probably should since it's been over 100,000 miles since they were replaced.

I'm still happy with my 14 year old car. It has aged well.

One of the mods should pin this to the top, seems like a pretty universal topic for all Lex owners.

How did you know your ball joints needed to be replaced? Did the ride feel change or did the service person find it during inspection? I wonder about my joints.

well at first the ride did change.. the car would tend to shift on uneven road and steering would be a lot sluggish.. there are other ways to know like when you make a turn u would hear clicking type of noise... also another way is if you gas it and brake..just look at your front wheels, if you see the toe kind of shift forward alittle bit then you're gonna have to change it

just bought a '96 gs300 with 144,000 miles.
Starts and runs really sweet except for a wheel vibration - hope its worn tyres.

Full service history to 123,000 nothing noted except lower balljoints done last year.
I didnt get the remote locking keyfob so I have to use a key.

Thanks partly to this site influenced me to buy this car despite the mileage.

Otherwise, shes running strong
