Give it a little more elbow grease.

I recently had the same problem. Bang the **** with a hammer until it comes loose. Trust me. I have the blisters on my finger to prove how hard it is to take it out if it is very tight. I think mine was the original spare that was never taken out. Still had the little ***** on the tire and the colored line in the grooves.

Bang it in the direction to open it until it comes loose and then you can open it with your hand.

Try grabbing it with a towel or a shami, or try a rubber mallet so you dont break it and simply tap it in the direction of loosening it.

Theres a plastic piece and it sits on a long metal shaft. Is this long metal shaft thats going to spin or just the plastic piece and the shaft never moves?

you need to put pressure on the metal peice..try to use a long screwdriver and put it between the plastic and metal and pry up carefully...basicly what ur trying to do is put pressure on the metal peice to keep it from spinning.

or if u have a pair of long needle nose pliers or vice grips.....that should get er' done!

had a problem like this at work, we just used a really large channel lock plier to grab it and it came off with some effort.
