Default Would you by wheels that cost more than your car?

Since our cars are more than 10 years old, it dosn't cost an arm and leg to own one. I have a principal that I cannot pay more for wheels than I did my car. But I saw a set of wheels that I fell in love with and I know they will cost more than what I paid for my car. How do you guys feel about this??

This is my first post, but i had to post on this. When it comes to modding a car, it doesn't really matter the cost if you know it will enhance the appearance. If the car doesn't look ready for the wheels, then get that straight first. Busted cars and nice rims don't go at all.

A member off another web forum (not car brand related), stated that his rule is to never spend more than 10% of the cars value in wheels. Not sure if that included wheels and tires. Think about it. You drive a 20k car. You can find some pretty nice wheels for 2000 right? It would seem a bit off to see one with 7k HRE's.

I've kinda followed that rule of thumb.

Yea 1st gens look great. I guess for me its the principal. I'm just trying to justify spending so much on wheels. How much would your car have to cost in order for you guys to spend 7k on wheels? If my ride was 20k+ I would not hesitate at all. If i follow the 10% rule my wheels would have to be under $1000, not too many choices there. btw my car is mint and very wheel worthy.

dude, the first gen is; RARE and B-E-Autiful, you dont see them on the road much at all, yeah sure for that price you could get a much "newer" car, but it would be no where near the coolness level that the gs obtains. you can not find a car that is more unique for the price, and if you want new wheels and you have the money, go for it

the actual price of your first gen is not important, its the personal value that it holds to you

i paid 5 grand for mine, but i wouldnt sell it for ten.......its all about how much you love your GS bro

if you feel like gettin her some wheels, then get her some wheels, if shes anything like mine, she deserves it

if i had the cash, i'd do it in a heart beat cause a nice set of wheels just sets it off. but its owner preference

I've been thinking the same thing. If I had lower miles on my car I would probably spend more on wheels. But I'm not gonna spend any more than. $2700 on wheels for this car. And that's more than half what I paid for the car. But like some of the others have said. If you ar moding the car price tends to go out the door sometimes.

My opinion is that it depends on the depth of ones pockets and priorities....and my priorities run deeper than my pockets .....that's why I'm currently sitting on OEM GS 400 17's compliments of the salvage yards near Shea Stadium. I'm more interested in keeping her running decently and looking clean all of the time. Truth be told, hot rims are good especially when your car is tip top. I know folks with 3 inch out back 2 inch in front lipped SERIOSLY HOT RIMAGE and their cars dash is full of error codes and handling is poor...when purchased.... and the first mod are some shiny staggered set up for about 3500 after paying 3500 to 5000 for the car alone. Just my $0.02.

I'm sorry but i think this is a STUPID rule, But thats just me i might be alone on this. I dont see why the value of the car should determine what wheels you should get. It should be what you want and what you can afford. So by this rule, someone who has a new IS350, should not get some ballin *** HRE's? Come on now thats just gay. If you cant afford new then get used wheels for cheaper.

i spend as much as i can for wheels. it doens't make any difference what i paid for the car. many times i'll buy a "junk" car and rebuild everything so it's nice again, so why should it have cheap ugly wheels?
my rule is that i buy what i want to make the car look good.
