I went to get my car smogged yesterday (yes I am in CA) and it passed with 0 margin (max 81 I measured at 81) for HC.
The mechanic told me he believes its the front 2 O2 sensors. 195 per sensor plus 119 per sensor to replace. I did some searching around and it does make sense. So does the TPS he didn't mention when I was looking around. The only thing is he is not a lexus guy and for some reason I don't trust people who arent.
I found both under the hood and my transmission shifts have not been smooth lately so it makes sense.
I can see where both plugs are as well as the TPS I personally suspect. How hard is it to change the sensors. Whats the recommended torque. Are there certain O2 sensors that are better then others (Bosch vs. Denso).
As far as the TPS sensor is concerned how do you calibrate it?
I am somewhat lost and really only want to attempt it if it really is like a 30 minute Saturday morning job type of thing. At the same time I still remember working on my cars in High School and have trouble paying a mechanic twice for the same job (120 per sensor) especially when I can see the nut and wire right in front of me. Is it really just open the hood unplug the sensor unscrew it, torque in a new one plug it in and close the hood... Thats what I am envisioning right now...
Should I worry about the TPS?
