Default So my tranny gave out on me yesterday morning.

My next course of action is probably to source a tranny from a junkyard, have it put in and sell the car.

After that, I have two options which are:

1) Get another first gen GS

Or

2) Get an SC400

I'll let you know how things go.

Like I told tx_gs3 in the other thread, I have a 94 GS3 trans sitting at my buddies shop for the last year. Shifted fine when I removed it. Located in Chandler AZ.

Why not just rebuilding the tranny?

To those who say just fix the tranny...ummm, well, that really isn't an option. In my experience, transmissions that have been rebuilt never really feel the same afterwards and I don't feel like forking over 1K to take that chance.

Kaiser - good looking out on the tranny, although I think a friend of mine may have sourced one from the local junkyards, so I'll see what he's got first. If anything, I'll send you a pm if that doesn't go through.

I'd love to get another first gen but if I can't one in good condition locally in a reasonable amout of time I'm seriously going to consider getting an SC400.

We'll see how everything goes

Dumb question, did you check the fluid while the engine was hot and running? You never disclosed how you knew the trans was shot so I assume it's slipping.

Yeah, I check my fluids regularly.

The tranny just started to slip and gave no prior indication that anything was wrong. I was driving normally, then at a light when I stepped on the gas pedal to accelerate, my rpms shot up and it wouldn't upshift into the next gear.

Does anyone know if the SC300/SC400 tranny will work in our cars?

Sorry to hear of what happened Seize. How many miles did the tranny fail at? Are you serious about a sc400? How can a big guy like you fit in that thing, I barely fit and you are a beast. hahahaha

Get a 2nd gen, if not stick with another 1st gen. If I were in your situation, I'd get a gs400 since you like v8's.

My 94 is doing the same thing and I don't even drive her hard, she had the same symptoms, so, I changed the fluid, reset the ecu,(thought it could'nt hurt) for 2 days I'm riding good, then she started acting up again. 157,000 miles. I'll probably get a junk yard unit and pray that it works. Good luck Bro!

You need to find a reputable shop. My first tranny rebuild was a disaster too. I found a local shop that builds race trannys and does transmissions for a local toyota stealership. They shift just like stock and are waranteed and backed by the stealer.

It gonna be cheaper than buying a tranny to drop in, sell the car and then go get another to do the same thing all over again with the possibility that it may happen again
