Default looking into a 93 GS300

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I am from Toronto, Canada. I am looking into buying a 1993 GS300, can anyone pin point me where to take extra caution when looking into this car. Are there any major problem or common problem for this car? any recalls and stuff? Please feel free to chip in any information, anything would be helpful since i'm a noob at this.

Thanks for looking

Ball joints were a recall item on the 1994s. Not sure about 93s, but you should get documentation that they have been replaced. Trunk and hood struts are usually bad unless they've been replaced. Window trim separates. The wood inserts around the shifter are a common failure item. I would also recommend getting documentation of transmission service. If the fluid hasn't been replaced regularly, you could be looking at a tranny failure in the not so distant future.

I have a 94 and did not hear about the ball joint recall. Could you link me? Also how long are they supposed to last? Lastly has anyone changed their ball joints? If so at what mileage did you do it at? thanks

Bryan, my service history printout shows that my balljoints were replaced under recall ealier in the car's life. I think it was done in 1995, but I would have to pull out the sheet to confirm. Here is a link I found to the recall:

http://www.automallusa.net/1994/lexu...0/recalls.html

I had Ted at Dynamic replace them again in 2005 when I had the 120K service done.

Update: I checked my service history and it shows lower ball joint R&R under recall/warranty in 1996 with approximately 45K miles on the clock.

Also check engine for leaks, most important one is rear main seal(can get expensive if you dont work on your own car), cam seals, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket are very common to leak on these cars.
Cluster Lights(all lexuses have this problem) needle leds and backlight bulbs burn out good place to get this done is Dnaspeedometer, they did my g/fs cluster very nice job at a very fair price.
