Update.. been talking to a few 1st genners from outside the US and have heard that the upper control arms on the 1st gen and 2nd gen are the same part #. Anyone here have the parts fiche or means to confirm this?

Would take that part out of the equasion as far as starting from scratch.

I cant confirm that info but I can tell you that I ordered all the parts to make new ones from scratch with a screw in moog ball joint and heim joints on the chassis side. The bolts that go thru the body will be enlarged from .39" to .5" so I can have beefy parts that im confident in. If these upper arms go well, im going to make some rear uppers, lowers and torque arms as well.

wow James.. moving right along. I've been involved in a lot of other things recently and havent had the time to devote like I wish I could (my son is due here in 13 days..)

Keep me posted on the construction.. what materials are you using? Sounds like it is right in my needs for functionality

I already have some 1" dom .120wall. So I bought weld bungs for the heimed ends. And the screw in thread sleeve for the moog joint. I already have a reamer for the ball joint incase the taper of the joint is different than a toy joint.
(I suspect it is but I bought an extra set of spindles that I can drill for a test fit)
I probably wont be able to work on them till mid month.

Congrats on the new arrival

Thanks for the congrats.

Sounds like a plan. One thing I was looking into is alternate mounting of the front upper control arm. Welding plates to the front and back of the strut tower where those bolts come thru and slotting the holes to allow for extreme camber adjustment. That would also give some freedom on the design of the arms..length.. etc.

Sounds like a good start. Email me the part #s you picked up and I can start on this end too.. i get a few hours a day to work on the car, and my neighbor is a former machinist and has a press and lathe in his garage.

I thought about all kinds of adjustable arms and ultimatly the heims are adjustable so that will be fine for me. I hacked the crap out of my lower xmember and made the slots bigger where the cam bolts go in, then removed the cam bolt guides and welded them back in 1/4" farther into the center of the car. The only problem I ran into was that the steering rack tie rod ends wouldnt allow enough adjustment. So I hacked a 1/2" off those too and chased the threads. Now im all set. But im still going to make lower arms too.
