I have some questions about buying a first gen GS300.
Before I get flamed; yes I searched...
I have to get a four door car and have seen some GS's for around $4.5k to $7k
The gas mileage is similar to any other v6 of this era and the 2jz is a solid engine (I have had a SC300 for awhile).
Note: Yes I know the 2jz is a straight 6 - not v6.
I am looking in the 5k to 6k (yes I know low baller)
so that means mileage of 100k+.
What is a realistic mpg figure for a 60/40 driving with a light foot?
Seems to be 19 to 20... if anyone has any input
I was wondering what would need to watch out for.
These are what I have already seen, most are common to any older car:
interior lights
engine leaks (specifically rear main seal)
window motors
rough tranny shifting
trim breaking
Recommended Service:
Tranny and timing chain
I would like a little more knowledge before looking around and buying.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Also does anyone know a good Lexus service shop in Alabama?

Cars I own:
1994 Toyota Pickup (230K on the odometer - 22r's rule!)
1996 Nissan 240SX SE
Cars owned:
1993 SC300 5-Speed (repaired and sold for a profit!)
1987 Honda Civic Hatch (This one rolled of a hill - forgot p-brake - I have nightmares - 40mpg)
1987 Supra Turbo (MK3 - and loved it - pre-F&F '97 to '99 - blue with blue leather interior though... so 80's)
1984 4x4 Toyota Pickup (287,000 miles on engine - killed it with a frozen radiator - my fault or would have hit 300k)

There are a few nice first gens listed in the classifieds here. I am not sure how many you'll find close to you. Your MPG estimate sounds about right. I get about 20 with 60/40 driving. I think the only fairly major thing to look for that you didn't mention would be power steering leaks. Good luck with your search!

Thing to look at:
Window seals (very expensive to fix and you hear a wind noise on highway)
Oil leakage in rear main seal
Power steering leaks
Suspension components
Check if you are due for timing belt and if you are change water pump also
Also minor things brake often like cup holder, fake wood trim around shifter and those idiot dash light other than that they are relailable cars and mine is example with pics to prove...

also check for front upper and lower control arm, lower ball joint, if it is shaking at the speed of 60-65 or it is make clunk sound when you hit the brake shuddenly..anyway watch for some kind of solid sound when turn ..be better prepare for expensive replace those parts....
