i just orderd a HID kit from CNlight. everything went okay, untill they mention somthing about a relay harness to protect the stock wiring harness from overloading. do i really need that. does the 1st gen have a history of burning out after puttin on HIDs. any kind of info would be helpfull.....

A relay is highly recommended. This comes with a kit I'm very familiar with.

really?... i thought 6K had blue tint to them. purple would be okay, i guess. just like the lights from the newer model Audi, white in the center with purple glare. i dont mind those at all. but i'll find out in a week or so when it gets here. i'll post up pics after i put it on. it shouldnt be to hard to install it(i dont think).

i just got my HiD kit in yesterday waitied 2weeks for this. i installed it to see if it works, im happy with the way it turnd out. but then i put on the relay harness i orderd with it. turn on the headlights and nutthing, i was messing with the relay for alteast an hour. so i just had the HID installed w/o the ralay.

CORRECT ME IF IM WORNG, but this is what i did. the relay is very similar to the pic Kaiser posted.
red wire with a small 15A fuse was put on the (+)positive terminal, the black ground wire was put on (-)negative treminal. now since it only had 1 plug for the OEM harness. i just plug it into the driverside factory harness because the relay was hooked the battery. the short ballast wire was plug into the driverside headlight and the longer ballast wire was plug into the passenger side headlight. what am i doin wrong, can somebody help!

You don't put the black wire on the negative terminal! You connect it to the car's body. Some bare metal somewhere under the hood out of the way. if you can't find any bare metal, a painted surface shouldn't be too bad. Just look for other bolts screwed into your car's body under there.

And that is different from connecting to the negative termial how?

Check the fuse.

Trust me, it's different.I don't know the specifics and scientific explanations and all of that, but it's the same basis as hooking up other things to your battery.

Your battery is ground to the chassis, yes, but the battery itself is not a ground. when you add an amplifier you do not ground it to the battery, same deal with a battery charger, it won't work. The chassis is the ground for electrics, not the battery.

Best explanation I could provide. I've helped hook up HID's on my friends 180, the ground wire has to be ground to the chassis firmly, or else the lights will not work, or will flicker on and off.

I'll be able to give you all the technical explanation when I reach there in class at UTi lol.

The battery in a Lexus is grounded once to the chassis and then to the block through a 6 gauge wire. Therefore he could ground it anywhere and it would still be in the same loop as the battery. Unless the ground wire is corroded or a bolt is missing I don't see how it can make a bit of difference.
