Default Aristo Struts

Does anyone have some words on strut replacement options on an Aristo?

My right front factory strut is dead. The car has a nice set of lowering springs and I was hoping to exchange out the strut with a set of '93 GS KYB struts.

It became apparent that the Aristo uses different strut mount/bump stops and maybe more than a '93 GS. Hmmm

Well. All I can find is coilovers and I'm not quite interested in going that route.

2 front factory Aristo replacement struts with shipping from JPN are almost the same price as a set of coilovers.

Couple pics (KYB are silver w/ thinner strut rod)

The Aristos had some sort of electronic control over the dampers, hence the electrical connection. Is there a control in the cabin? KYB's should be a direct replacement; you just won't have electronic control and can leave the plug unplugged. Lot's of the Aussies do this.

The electronic control is tied into the ECT system. When ECT is switched on the struts stiffen at higher speeds to give a more stable ride.

ECT rocker switch is on the console next to the shifter ... same as a 1st gen GS?

KYBs for a GS do not fit the Aristo .... hence my question. I'm chatting with a JDM parts importer in Vancouver on this issue. Maybe KYB or Bilstein makes a specific strut for the Aristo. I'd likely lose the damper control as people do with coilovers.

I'll keep this thread going ....
