You have an upper and a lower oil pan which means there's two possible leaking areas. They do not take a gasket, only Toyota FIPG sealant. Depending how much room is at your disposal you **may** have to lift the engine up from the crossmember to get the pan out. That can be done by undoing the engine mounts. As for how long, if you've never done it, take as much time as you need to, and get under there and count the bolts yourself. Get your hands dirty!!

There actually is a gasket, its made by fel-pro. If you search for oil pan gaskets you will find my "No Gaskets?!" Thread, in that thread I tell you where to find the gaskets, I cant remember the website right now and Im fixin to fall asleep typing this, so search and you will find. I forgot how many bolts there are.

I stand corrected, as far as I know from the factory BOTH oil pans are sealed with FIPG. FIPG is far more superior than a generic gasket which will be more prone to leak a little further down the road. I will double check this tommorow at work.

No, its true, Toyota does use FIPG, but a gasket is just easier if you dont know how to use FIPG.

FIPG adheres better to a dry clean surface, and once it does it forms a great seal. Gaskets don't tend to last as long but then they don't require anything more then a smooth surface (even if has oil on it). I found using a gasket with a thin coat of FIPG on both sides works best. You get the best of both worlds.

We had to clean the hell outta my pans when took em off, after we almost bent them trying to get them off.
I figure putting a gasket on will be easier because I will need to take my oil pan off not to long down the road to I can get some oil for my turbo.
