Car stalls when idling-- trac, trac off, abs
Hey guys--
i'm pretty new to this community, but not to cars. I own a reasonably modified 2002 WRX that i do all the work on, and am always on the nasioc.com boards as nothnbutthefacts. My brother just got a great deal on this immaculate 94 GS300. First of all, the ABS, TRAC, and TRAC Off lights come on shortly after starting the car and stay on. This ride is beautiful and drives great (giving no indication of a problem aside from the lights), but when stopped and sitting in idle for longer than a minute, the RPM's will start to fluctuate from about 1500 down to 500 or less and the Check engine light will come on while its doing this. Sometimes it will stall out sometimes it won't-- depends on how long you sit there. Once you start to go again, the car goes back to normal and the CEL turns off, but the other lights stay on. I have replaced the plugs and tried tripping the Fuel Pump ecu from the OBD-I plug to check that route, with no luck... The CEL codes that i pulled are:
24-- Intake Temp sensor circuit fault
31-- Low Airflow Meter Voltage
From my searching, it appears to be either an o2 sensor or MAF issue. Any input from you tech guys would be appreciated.
Thanks!
J

Sounds like you need a new Karmen meter or it's not connected well. The IAT is built in to the meter. Check the connections before you just replace it.
You might want to PM EPIK. He might still have his old one after his swap.

what's the Karmen meter? where is it located under the hood? After paying attention to the idle more closely, the RPMs are not as high as 1500, in fact they rarely go above 1000 but it'll idle fine for a second or two then just almost die but come back, and it'll repeat that until it inevitably dies-- just depends on how long you let it idle.

It's a type of air meter, there is hot wire, Karman, MAP, and flap/vane. It's just before the air box just like a hot wire maf would be.

Did you find the source?
My can is doing the same thing. When the car is in gear (Drive) and come to a full stop the idling RPM drops down to 250~500 RPM range and engine sputters. But when I put the gear in neutral, then the RMP comes back to 500~750 RMP range.
Your update will help alot.
Thanks
