Default Replacing metal window trim

Has anyone ever replaced the metal window trim on the outside of the car? the previous owner before me had the car broken into and they snapped off both the front and rear trims down the middle.

also how much do you think the parts will cost?

yeah, umm those things are really expensive to replace. i was going to but it was gonna be like 280 bucks. so i got the guy at my body shop to take them off and bend them back into the original positions. he chargen me like 50 bucks and it really reduced my wind noise and there was no more water leakage, you cn still see where they were bent, but it gets the job done

He may not have even had it broke into. At least I know mine wasnt. I thought it was and then every 1st gen I saw had the same thing, mine got so bad it snapped. The last time I checked they were around 325ish

Yeah, that's one of the 1st Gen GS flaw. I've own two 1st Gen, one 93 and now 95, both have the same problem. Luckily, the 95 which I'm driving now, is not so bad, just a little bend barely noticeable on the top driver side. The only problem is that at high speed you can hear wind noise coming in from that portion.

I used 3M windshield urethane and secured about 3" of the trim back into the track. It worked good for about a year.

My GS is currently in the paint shop and I removed all the window trims..I finally figured out why our cars do this..The trims are held onto the car by clips screws and nuts. The problem and design flaw from Lexus is that the actual clips that are attached to the trim were not fastened very securely and because of everyday driving conditions and the wind the clips detach themselves from the trim and begin to lift..So my solution is to remove the trim first off the car and I can guarantee that clip is detached from the trim and still attached to the car..You are going to need a pic tool to carefully remove the clip from the car without breaking it, BE PATIENT!! Once you have the clip removed you will be able to see were it detached from the back of the trim..I am going to reattach the clip to the trim using epoxy so that it doesn't come undone and as a safety Im also going to use some 3m tape when I install the trims back on the car..Another issue I noticed with the trims is they also lift up on the bottom part on the rear doors, this also happens for the same reason as I stated above..You can fix it the same way..hope this helps..
