LS400 Brakes Facts only!
Hi All,
Ok my brake problem has come back and my front stock calipers are sticking again and have wrapped another rotor.
I am now going to upgrade to LS400 calipers/discs.
I need answers to these questions from people who know who.
-Does the caliper need to be ground to fit past the tierod.
-Does can I use 16" rims? LS400's look like they used 16" rims during the production run for the cars during the time these calipers where used.
-Do i need any spacers or anything else?
Thanks!

Fellow CL member indypwr successfully did this upgrade a while back. You might want to PM him.

[QUOTE=zazzn;3316680]Hi All,
I need answers to these questions from people know who.
Yes, on any 2nd gen GS, sc430 you will need to grind down a few mm's off the end of the LCA bolt and possibly the nut itself. After that, you might even have to grind a little bit of material off of the actual caliper. The reason I use words like might and maybe is that I have seen different cars need more or less grinding, so it’s kinda a case by case basis.
Why dont you just make a LCA bracket? it would lower the LCA by 3/4-1 inch and you can call it a day.
As long as the wheels have adequate back spacing, then you should be OK, wheels from any 95+ LS or Supra TT will fit perfectly. I believe on the stock LS wheels they're offsets are 45-50
If you get the correct wheels/offsets then no. but if you were to buy a set of wheels that you happen to like and they are a little too close to the calipers then yes you will need to by spacers, and again that depends on how much clearance you will need to compensate for.
Do a search, there is a gs member who has installed them and written up a tutorial.

rca- roll center adjuster usually are used to help eliminate bumpsteer or binding in suspension from being too low. it looks like a spacer sorta but if you go into the 2gs section i see some using the rca so they dont have to shave anything on the ls brake upgrade
wonder if the 2gs one fits?

Zazzn, if you can find a set of Supra TT calipers, they are a straight fit and require no grinding of anything.
However grinding and cutting of the backing plate is required though.

yo willneed to grind the corner of the caliper then you will need to grind the top of tierod cap. to make them fit, you will also need rims that clear the calipers like TT rims or sl4 spare tire. stock 16 will not clear! no spacers needed

I would be in love if I could find TT calipers... I already have the discs that I've had for over 1 year and the pads along with the SS lines.
I ended up buying stock discs (cross drilled) because I need the car up running, I'm going to rebuild my stock caliper or take a look to find out why it's sticking.
