1st gen without factory sun-roof check in

Lead Lap
When I bought mine in 2002, I looked at a bunch of them. Most were in rough shape, had high miles, needed work, or had other issues such as extensive collision repair. I was so happy to find one in nice condition with 59K miles down in Del Mar that I agreed to buy it after a test drive. I didn't even notice it didn't have a sunroof when I went back to pick it up with check in hand a few days later.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to look into acquring this for the US market.
If I get this, I'll sell my '93 GS300. It has 87K and its gold.

Ok so I know this post is old but I recently purchased a 1995 GS with a hardtop. I'm curious to know the history or origin of these cars or more information on these hardtop models.

I don't believe there is anything rare about the hardtop other than it was a basic no options lexus. I'm assuming more popular in japan with the cloth interiors. History or origin of the car is the same, designed by Italdesign Giugiaro and released in Japan in 1991 with the 2jzgte and 2jzge, with automatic only transmissions. In the USA and other markets the car was released in 1993, and I don't think I have ever seen a cloth USDM car but it may exist.

Yeah most US owners favor the leather interiors and sunroof/moon roof combos along with things like traction control. Although one of my GS's didn't have TRAC, as it was an added cost. I don't know if you had to be the original purchaser to choose your options and have the car built to your specifications to receive a non sunroof from a USA dealer or if some dealerships decided to order hardtops to reduce the price and increase sales in their areas. Cool none the less, but the sunroof is truly a quality upgrade just like the leather interiors from this era.
