i belive the imput drive shaft and pig tails (rear connection to driveshaft) are different on mk4 . the bell housing on na should say j2 for auto tranny. its ok though just take the *** of ur tranny and put it on the mk4 tranny. and just make sure to check the seals

I believe the Auto Tranny from the earlier NA's out of the Supra, SC and 1stGen GS are the same. With the exception of the yoke's. Last time I researched this there are 3-4 versions of the rubber piece and the bolt pattern.
I also have seen many discussion about the different trans and yokes etc.. on various forums. Search around and review what others have learned and avoid costly mistakes.
Cost of a working trans run around $200-$500.00. There's additional costs for labor and other materials. (i.e Transfluid, any filter)
According to the shop manuals you'll need to pull the motor out so that you can get to the bellhousing bolts. Again, the labor is where most of your cost may go. Just make sure you go to someone who will gaurantee the part and labor.
good luck and hope that you keep her running.
