Hello guys/girls
I have heard from a few people on CL as well as off that the 1G is slow as heck. I havnt driven one yet and i know its not exactly car you buy for drag racing but its a lexus (enough said).
Now what do you all think of your 1G as far as performane? I was sitting here thinking maybe when people say they are slow they are comparing them to new cars which these days civics are pushing 200HP LOL.
Thanks,

Well if you swap in a GTE, you aren't really that slow anymore, that's always one way to look at it. As far as the stock motor goes, I think it has decent power for being nearly a 10 year old sedan, if you maintain it right and you're the only one in the car (which isn't saying much). Definitely lacks in the torque department though. Add any passengers and youre done for.
bottom line, you wont be winning any "races" unless your racing a GEO or have a GTE swap. More of a comfortable cruising car.

to be frank, the 1GS stock is slow. 220hp at the crank, 160 at the wheels on a 3600lb car is gonna do that to you.
Fortunately, the engine is near bullet proof. I personally chose this car cause I like the timeless styling and wanted the potential of an N/A supra engine. BOOST!
lol
A basic turbo kit on this thing can increase hp at the wheels by almost 100% at 8-9psi

Lexatlast is right. Mine is dog slow. My brother's '08 Honda Odyssey will run rings around it. Sad, I know, but it's true. These cars have been found with over 500K miles on them and the 2JZ-GE is bulletproof.

I agree as well what made me get one was the reliability of the engine which is world renowned for it's dependabilty and you can sport tune it til your heart's content. There's a guy on car domain in FL. tuned his 1st gen to well over 600+ hp, if you got the $ & time. Japan is still lovin them with the best looks i've seen on the net thus far.

Thanks alot everyone... Also i was just doing some research and i read that the 98' GS has only like 225 hp which is only 5 more than the 1G. Are those cars slow as well or was there something done to them like tuning to make them faster?
Thanks,
Thanks,
